1. Build Knowledge With a Video
- Watch our video Todo tipo de libros. Afterward, ask, ¿Quién cuenta la historia, el autor o el ilustrador? Many children may think that the person who writes the words is the one who tells the story. But pictures tell stories too!
2. Read and Think
- Read the magazine together. Don’t miss the page 4 activity, Encuéntralo en el estudio de Christian. He created it just for us!
- Then use the Demuestra lo que sabes skill sheet to gauge comprehension.
3. Fun Skills Practice
- Children can practice looking for books in a virtual library with our game: Búsqueda en la biblioteca.
- Children can practice interpreting a chart with our Las herramientas de Christian skill sheet.
Hands-on Activity
Make a Collage

Materials: construction paper, scissors, glue, paint, magazines, and newspapers (optional)
- Explain that Christian Robinson makes his pictures using both paint and shapes cut from colored paper. Sometimes he also uses pieces from newspapers and magazines. Let kids explore some of his illustrations—but make sure children know that their finished artwork will be all their own!
- Set out the materials above, and give each child a plain sheet of construction paper. Let children explore Christian’s techniques freely. Abstract designs are fine—it’s all about the process!
- Finally, display children’s work and let volunteers describe how they created their art!
